This course provides the background and history of the CAN-SPAM Act. Compliance professionals will learn about their role in ensuring CAN-SPAM compliance. The course also explains the difference between a transactional and a commercial email, and the requirements for a CAN-SPAM compliant email. In addition, the course examines special cases, how CAN-SPAM regulations apply, and the penalties for noncompliance.

Founding Principal

David McCrea is the Founding Principal of CompAssured, a compliance consulting firm that partners with financial technology (fintech) companies and financial institutions to simplify compliance. He is experienced in consumer and regulatory compliance, remediation, Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML), operations, vendor management, security, and fraud/loss control.
Prior to founding CompAssured LLC, David worked at advisory firms providing consulting and audit services to financial institutions and fintechs. Services included remediation, audits, training programs, and CMS/Audit/Risk programs. David managed U.S. and U.K. compliance for an international financial industry software company and has experience managing compliance and operations at community banks.
David currently serves as a Faculty Member of the American Bankers Association’s (ABA) Compliance School, an Advisory Board Member of the ABA Bank Compliance Magazine, and an instructor for an Executive Development Program. David is also a frequent speaker for state banking associations and other industry groups.
