Many banks use social media to engage and assist customers, manage complaints, discover new customer needs, and keep customers informed about their financial accounts. Banks are also using social media to advertise their products and promote brand awareness. This course explains the role of bank marketers when advertising in a social media setting, the banking laws and regulations applicable to social media advertising, the opportunities and challenges that banks face using social media for advertising, and the risks and regulatory challenges banks face in social media advertising.

After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the challenges that banks face using social media for advertising
- Identify the laws and regulations that must be considered when using social media to advertise deposit and lending products
- Describe other risk factors related to social media marketing
Audience: All staff using social media, particularly marketing staff or any staff allowed to post to the bank’s social media sites. Legal and Chief Risk Officers and Compliance Officers who need to monitor the bank’s social media with regard to privacy laws, reputational risk, advertising requirements and other potential issues.
